29th September 2008 Gradings Congratulations to all our members at Kelmscott, Albany and Rockingham who passed their gradings in the past couple of weeks.
14th September 2008 F.E.W. Seminar The Charles Rawlins Martial Arts and Taekwondo Centres are honoured and privileged to host Grandmaster Rodel Dagoc and Hanshi Tino Ceberano, two F.E.W. Master instructors, to conduct a 2 day seminar on 18 and 19 October. This seminar will cover many aspects such as knife, stick and empty hand fighting. Those that know anything about Modern Arnis or knife & stick fighting will know that Grandmaster Rodel is one the foremost experts in this style having trained with many of the top Modern Arnis instructors around the world. He will be coming to Perth from the Philippines for 1 week to train and grade some of us before heading off to Queensland to receive an award at the World Hall of Fame Awards. If that was not big enough, we will have Hanshi Ceberano regarded as the father of Australian Karate also assisting and conducting this once in a life time seminar.
(Grandmaster Rodel on the right with Henshi Ceberano on the left) We would like to invite all martial arts practitioners, regardless of style, club, group or federation, to participate in this wonderful and exciting seminar. RSVP your spot ASAP! Places are limited. More information here. Great National Results Congratulations and well done to all that competed in the 2008 TA National Championships in Sydney. Well done to all. (Happy competitors and their coaches from QLD & WA after a nice and enjoyable weekend at the 2008 TA National Championships)
Fantastic Quiz Night Another successful Quiz night organised by Mr Ian Sims, Mrs Jacqui Otago and thanks to all those who volunteered their services. Many thanks as well to all who donated gifts and prizes. Over two hundred people turned up and it was a great night enjoyed by all.
(Quiz master Mr Ian Sims doing his job) Saturday 30th August saw the club host it second big fundraiser for the year and like the chocolate drive it was a huge success. Everyone had a lot of fun and a lot of money was raised to fund our members to compete in various events and competitions. This one in particular was for the fighters and their coaches who will be representing our club and WA at the TA Nationals in Sydney and the STA Selection Championships in Canberra.
(Chris Edward happily accepting a cheque from Mr Rawlins for the Rockingham club that will be competing at the Nationals) We would like to thank everyone that made an effort in any way to get prizes and donations for this event. We know we ask a lot from you in the many fundraising events that we have through out the year but you, the people, are always there to support, volunteer, give up your time and somehow always be there for the club and its members. To you all we say a big THANK YOU.

(From Australasian Taekwondo Special Edition 2007) Korean Visitors In Albany by Reggie Carson
(In Sin, Won, Kristy, Lufti, Paul and Jung) At the start of 2008, Rawlins Albany had some very special visitors come and train with us. Our shy and modest Korean visitors had been out of the art for a long time. Thanks to Lufti who worked with them at the local butcher, brought them over and we had some fantastic time. It was good to see them enjoying themselves and getting back into the groove. It was amazing to see them huffed and puffed on their first day of training with us although a couple of them play soccer in their off time. Unknowingly, the Koreans' first day of training was tournament training. Oops! Taekwondo fitness is great! The first Korean came to train with us was In Sin, 4th Dan, also has a black belt in Aikido. He showed the Albany black belts some Aikido and self defense moves to give us plenty of ideas. Since then, Jung (5th Dan) and Won (1st Dan) had come to join us. The funniest thing that happened was Jung, ex-member of the Korean Army demonstration team, trying to teach Kristy a 720 demo spinning kick. The kick was so complicated even breaking it down was mind boggling. I think Kristy has given up since then. It was amazing to see him excute that kick very nicely even though he has been out of taekwondo for more than 5 years. JT and Edward are the two other Korean boys who came to join us. Just recently, more Koreans came to train with us and I managed to spar with one of the boys who still has the quick moves after years of no training. A few of the Koreans have gone back to Korea and left us with new ideas which we will incorporate in our training. Thanks guys, we really appreciate your help.
