| 25th June 2009 Rules for STA States Here are the rules for the STA States competition this weekend. It will be interesting to see what happens. 24th June 2009 Black Belt Grading Shane Page showing us how to demolish 7 tiles.
Congratulations to the following Rockingham members on passing their black belts Emma Leopold and Craig Bauer whose courage and determination helped them achieve their 1st Dan black belt. They will now be put on 1 year probation to prove to Mr. Rawlins, the Academy and their instructors that they are worthy to be called a Rawlins Black Belt. Congratulations also to Mark Pinkerton and Shane Page on passing and being awarded their 2nd Dan Black Belt. The two had to do a 2km run under 9 minutes, a 3 direction board break, weapons demo, two against one full contact sparring and tile breaking just to mention a few of the things they had to do to pass. We would like to invite everyone to come and see for yourself the grueling black belt grading which the candidates have to go through to pass. You won't be disappointed. While most of us were busy in Perth with seminars and tournaments for the month of May, our Broome club and its members have been busy doing demos and promoting our centres in both Taekwondo and Escrima at various events functions around Broome. These pictures were taken at the Norwest Expo in Broome and from the reports that we have received, the demos were entertaining skillful with the crowd wanting more. (Full contact Escrima sparring) (Full contact Taekwondo sparring) (Knife attack & defence) (Escrima demo) (The boys taking a bow to the cheers of the crowd after an entertaining and well planned demo) Well done to Tony and the members in Broome in the work they are doing in developing and promoting both the art of Taekwondo and Escrima up there. If anyone is lucky enough to visit or holiday in Broome check out the club where you will be greeted with a big smile and shown Broome hospitality. 3rd June 2009
Following on from the educational and informative seminar by GM Park and GM Kwon on Saturday 2nd May, members from our centres had to refocus and prepare for the Rawlins Challenge the next day. Our usual volunteers were there to help set up on Saturday night with the mats and the computer scoring system even though the WA State Executives (3) refused our Academy from using the State's mats or computer systems (due to personal & political reasons). Anyway, we were expecting this from them and had a back up plan. The Tournament proceeded without any problems. All the major clubs and their players participated in this event. We even had teams from Queensland and New Zealand. All were there except the ATA group (and we won't say anymore other than we feel sorry for their members because they are the ones that are suffering & missing out). Over 300 competitors participated in the sparring and 98 in the patterns. It was a fantastic turn out with the patterns up first in the morning on all three rings which were supervised by qualified Poomsae judges. Following the medal presentation of the patterns, we were all treated to a Haka (the war challenge) by the New Zealand team which set the scene for an exciting and entertaining tournament. (Carmela Hartnett awarding black belt poomsae place winners)
(David Darling, Michael Vickers and Mr. Rawlins face the Maori Haka) We ran 3 fully matted rings, 2 with the latest electronic scoring system (thanks to the Black Swan Taekwondo Inc.) with fully qualified referees and judges. It was a well ran competition and had action from start to finish. All the colored belt fights in the morning session and all the black belt fights starting after lunch. We closed only one ring at a time so the referees and judges could have a lunch break but we kept 2 rings running with entertaining fights, so there was action happening all around and no one was sitting there getting bored. It was great to see coaches and club members enjoying themselves and even sharing in a joke or two as all TKD politics were left at the door and everyone just enjoyed the day with no problems from coaches, referees or spectators.

(The Boss giving some final advice to one of his fighters from Queensland) Thanks to all our helpers, the marshalls, announcers, door staff, computer operators, to those who helped set up and clean up, to those who prepared the wonderful lunch, to the referees & judges. The list could go on and on but we at the club know who you are and we are very grateful for all your help. Special thanks to Harvey Fresh for donating the juices for the officials. 1st June 2009 STA State Championship Forms Here Attention all members! The STA State Championship forms are now available for download here! 31st May 2009 Visitors at Beechboro Beechboro members were treated to a surprise visit from Grandmasters Park and Kwon. When the two Masters attended a normal class session, and presented some gradings results to some very lucky students. Our friends from New Zealand were also at the training session and gave the two Masters as well as our members a crowd pleasing performance of the Haka. Some have never seen it (the Haka) before including the two Masters and thank you to the New Zealand team for performing the Haka.
30th May 2009 Once again our academy has been very busy and has been at the fore front in the development of Taekwondo in Western Australia by inviting two world renown Master Instructors who are also the two most highest ranking Taekwondo practioners and head instructors currently teaching at the Kukkiwon for a 4 hour seminar for the Centre. The seminar was not only for our members but for all Taekwondo students regardless of who they train with or what association they belong to in WA. This was a once in a life time oppournity for many to train with Grandmaster Park and Grandmaster Kwon and what a fantastic turn out it was with over 78 students attending. (Grandmasters Park and Kwon with Mr Rawlins) The seminar was held at the Wanneroo Recreation Centre due to the large numbers of instructors and students from the metro region and regional regions such as Albany, Esperence, Kalgoorlie and Broome, as well as visiting teams from New Zealand and Queensland, just to mention a few clubs attend this very informative and interesting seminar, which covered poomsae and their applications as well as sparring drills and techniques that could come in handy in competitions.
(Members warming up before the they get stuck into it)
(Hard into the drills) The first 2 hours of the seminar covered traditional patterns, as taught by the creator and founder himself (GM Park). He demonstrated the proper way to block strikes and kicks as well as explaining their meanings and their applications. Most of the members were astonished and amazed by the skills and knowledge displayed by GM Park, who for his age is truly incredible. Questions were asked and answered about various blocks and techniques, and at the end of the first session that covered patterns everyone was a lot wiser.
(GM Park demonstrates on Queensland instructor Haris Olomi)
(GM Park demonstrates on Esperence instructor Michael Vickers) After a short drink break members were put through their paces for another 2 hours by GM Kwon, who is the principal head instructor at the Kukkiwon in competition sparring. He covered attacking and countering kicks and well as gave us some drills and situations that we need to work on to improve our competition sparring. Those that thought GM Park was amazing could not believe how fast, agile and flexible GM Kwon was, and every time he demonstrated a kick it was done with such power and speed that it was funny looking at the expression on both students and spectators face as they looked on with jaws hanging.
(GM Kwon squaring of with Dennis and showing him size does not matter as he gives him one) We were all sore and tired after the seminar so we all gave each other a well earnt little massage in which both Masters joined in. It was truly a great seminar with everyone walking away with a lot more understanding and appreciation of both patterns and sparring. We thanked both Masters for their visit and knowledge and hopefully will see them again when we plan our next seminar. (Everyone enjoying a massage) (Master Kwon in action) (Mustaafa being put through his paces)
10th May 2009 Another Successful Seminar Saturday 2nd May Seminar with Grandmaster Hae Man Park & GM Young Woo Kwon was a huge success with 78 taekwondo practioners attended the 4 hour session which consisted of poomsae by the main founder of the the Taeguk and black belt forms and sparring drills and techniques by the principal instructor at the Kukkiwon. Check back for the report.
(Some of the participants who attended the seminar) Pictures From The Rawlins Challenge and Seminar Now Available! Some pictures of the black belts fighting here. If you have any coloured belt pictures to add to the collection, please email rcarsontkd@gmail.com. Don't have the pictures of coloured belts or poomsae because I was behind the computers! I'm still trying to find the perfect settings for my camera so some of these pictures are a bit blurry. If you find broken links please let me know as well. Thanks. Enjoy! - Reggie (Webmaster) 7th May 2009 The Passing of Shin Boo Kim
(Mr Kim with his Best Referee award the World Poomsae Championships in 2007) We from Rawlins Taekwondo would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the late Mr Shin Boo Kim's family and the South West Taekwondo Academy on the passing of their husband, father and chief instructor. Mr Kim was one of the highest ranked instructors in Western Australia. He was a humble, quiet and fair man who was respected by many taekwondo practitioners around Western Australia and Australia. He was a qualified international poomsae referee as well as the Technical Director in WA who was willing to share his knowledge gained from international competitions to taekwondo practitioners in the state whether they were from his club or from other clubs. Under his guidance, several poomsae competitors from Western Australia have gone on to represent Australia in key international competitions. He will be greatly missed by all in Western Australia. To Mrs Kim and Harry, our thoughts and prayers are with you both in this time of sorrow. 2nd May 2009 World Cup Australian Representative! With all the excitement of Jess & Kire's wedding on the weekend we forgot about the World cup selection event that was taking place in Canberra on the sane day where 3 of our members were competiting. Unfortunately with out their coach Mr Rawlins, as he chose not to go as he was attending the wonderful wedding. The good news is that Chad Cross made the World Cup Team with the Jason and Jasmine missing out. (Well done Chad) We would also like to congratulate Chad, Jasmine and Jason on entering this selection event and for going across to Canberra and competiting by themselves without a coach. Who knows if Mr Rawlins was there, the results might have been different. || Back to the top || © 2007-2009 Charles Rawlins Martial Arts and Taekwondo Centres |
