The Wrap Up From Albany's Grading and Seminar
Wow the 16th & 17th of May was a great weekend for the Albany Rawlins club and it's members, as well for all the other Martial Art clubs from and around the Great Southern Region.
On the 16th the Albany members had a club grading, of which chief Instructor Mr Rawlins said that the standard was very good and that he was looking forward to see how some of the members would perform at their first State Championships on the 7th & 8th June. Congratulations also to those that double graded.

The next day most of the members along with fellow Martial Artist from various styles were given the rare opportunity to train in a marathon 6 hour seminar in some of the different styles of martial arts that were taught by a group of fantastic instructors in and around Great Southern region.

The seminar covered 2 hours of Taekwondo with everyone there learning some of the different kicks in Taekwondo and how to apply them in sparring and street situations. This was very interesting as some of the students and instructors from the other styles learnt a little more about our kicks, and were also giving us ideas on how they would counter these kicks. It was 2 hours of fast and intensive kicking drills where we all learnt from each other. Mr Rawlins did a great job in keeping everyone motivated and interested and was well assisted by Kire, Jason and Clinton.
After a short break, the next 2 hours were on Karate where we had the privilege to be taught by one of the all time great instructors in this style of fighting, Henshi Tino Ceberano, whom many consider as Father of Australian Karate. In this segment Hanshi Ceberano, who was assisted by Eddie Taweel from I.G.K, covered the hand and foot work of Karate. We all learnt many newand fantastic drills and combinations where once again input was given by the various instructors on counters. It was great to see this man work who to this day is still as fast with his hands as he was many years ago.

We then had a well deserve lunch break and thanks to Sheree, Robbie, Debbie and Graham for organising the drinks and lunch. We needed the food and drinks to recharge our batteries for the next section which was in Ju Jitsu. Instructors Steve Landels and Kurt Normington two well respected instructors took us through some hold, take-downs and locks where everyone had fun and did their best to get the techniques right especially our Taekwondo boys (once again ideas were exchanged). It was great to see many of our students get down on the ground and fight, a position that not many of use are to.

The last section was on Arnis stick fighting which was conducted by Henshi Ceberano and was assisted by Mr Taweel and Mr Rawlins. This part of the seminar was for black belts only so the rest of the coloured belts had a break or just practiced what they learnt. We covered as much as was possible with the Arnis sticks without getting to complicated and then we decided to try out some training aids and equipment that would help us in our training and boy, by the end of that session we were all totally buggered.

The seminar was a great success with all martial artists regardless of what style they belong to, learnt from each other. While every club in the Great Southern and surrounding areas were invited to attend, those who could attend, both instructors and students, gained a wealth of knowledge from the seminar and walked away with a better understanding and respect of each others art. We had well over 40 attending from as far as Bunbury, Mt Barker, Denmark, Kojonup, Perth and Albany.

Lastly, a big thank you to Ray's Sportpower for sponsoring the seminar and yo all that helped contribute in anyway thank you very much. Your input and attendance helped in making this seminar a great success. Those who didn't attend have missed out on a great opportunity to gain tremendous experience and skills from some of the most respected instructors in Australia.
