Town of Bassendean Says Thanks to Rawlins Taekwondo for Valuable Assistance at Australia Day Event
By Jacqui Otago
When most people are relaxing and enjoying the Australia Day Celebrations a group of Charles Rawlins Taekwondo members and families were hard at work raising $500 for the club. The Town of Bassendean needed assistance at their Australia Day Celebrations and Fireworks public event held at the Ashfield Reserve, Guildford Road last Saturday evening 6pm to 10pm. It's their biggest event and they needed a group to marshal the fireworks exclusion zone, do the ground clean up and provide valuable assistance packing up at the end of the night. It was great to see the support from members and families who stepped up and committed to the job, especially considering many are still away on their summer vacation including Mr. Rawlins.
I would sincerely like to thank everyone, who assisted on the night it was truly a terrific group effort. Also, I wish to make special mention of five people, who were outstanding Kire Dicoski, Jessica Jordan, Tony Capriotti, Michael Rimbas and Paul Otago. We truly couldn't have managed without their help in packing up, especially since the Event Coordinator is due to give birth in March! Your assistance was sincerely appreciated along with everyone, who came down to help on the night. Thank you once again.

Mt. Hawthorn Grading
Well done to all the members at Mt Hawthorn who have done their grading in December.

It is fitting to end 2007 with the Centre's Awards Night. Held after the Black Belt grading, members were able to reflect on what a wonderful 2007 they had. During the Awards Night, recognition was given to several outstanding members across the Centre.
2007 was a good year for Garrick. His highlights included making the Australian Junior Team in January 2007 where he competed in the Junior Youth Olympics in Sydney and won a Bronze medal at this event. Later in June he competed in the Malaysian Open and the Korean Open where he again won a Silver medal as there were not many tournaments in WA where he could compete. The WA State Open was the only state tournament in which he competed and won.
Garrick has proven himself to be worthy of this award. Well done Garrick.

Some of our other winners at our awards and presentation night. More photos will follow as soon as members that were there and took photos with their cameras pass them on to Mr Rawlins or any of the committe members.
Jackson Harvey - winner of our Christmas Hamper.
Congratulations and well done to Clare Francis, who since transferring from her Esperence club a year ago has meet all the requirements and criteria that is needed to be a worthy black belt in our club and was awarded her 2nd Dan black belt.
Since training under Mr Rawlins, Clare has competed in 2 International Championships (The Korean Open & The Malaysian Open) in which she won Gold Medals in both competitions, she is now looking forward to 2008 and more challenges.
To prove her dedication and desire to become one of the best, Clare travels 45 minutes every second day to train with the elite Black belts of our clubs (with thanks to her parents who drive her). When asked why she does this, Clare replied,''To be the best you must train with the best.''
