Fighting Techniques

This page will provide some techniques in competition sparring and self defense. Some of these techniques have been published in various magazines.

Modern Arnis Disarm #1

 

(1) Cameron and Eddie in ready position

(2) Cameron strikes to Eddie's mid section/left elbow

(3) Eddie blocks the strike, grabs the attackers stick with his left hand, drops and twists to the outside whilst pushing with own stick near the attackers hand

(4) Eddie follows through with the disarm

 

(5) Eddie counter strikes

 

 

Modern Arnis Disarm #2

 

(1) Ready

(2) Cameron strikes Eddie to the right mid section/elbow which is blocked

(3) Eddie inserts the stick to the inside of Camerons arm

(4) Eddie uses the end of his stick to parry Cameron's arm over whilst catching the other end of the stick in his right hand.

(5) Cameron is forced to let go of his stick from the pressure on his hands

 

Modern Arnis Disarm #3

(1) Ready

(2) Eddie blocks Camerons stike to his left mid section/elbow

(3) Eddie scoops his left arm under Cameron, locking the stick under arm and applying pressure to Cameron's forearm. Eddie simultaneously draws his stick back to a ready position

(4) Eddie twists his body to disarm whilst counter striking to the head

 

Modern Arnis Disarm #4

(1) Ready

(2) Eddie blocks the strike to his right mid section/elbow

(3) Eddie grabs the stick with a left overhand grip next to Cameron's hand

(4) Eddie turns his hand over whilst raising his stick

(5) Eddie strikes down with the end of his stick whilst raising his left hand at the same time

(6) Eddie counter strikes to the head

 

Modern Arnis Disarm #5

 

(1) Ready

(2) Cameron strikes to the top of Eddies head which he blocks with a high block

(3) Eddie hooks the end of his stick over Cameron's wrist whilst parrying to the outside and down and grabbing Cameron's wrist with his left hand

(4) s Using the end of his stick, Eddie strips Cameron's stick whilst pulling his wrist the opposite direction

(5) Eddie counter strikes to the chest

 

12 Basic Modern Arnis Strikes

(1) Cameron and Eddie face off in ready position

\

(2) Cameron strikes Eddie to the left temple

(3) Strike to the right temple

(4) Strike to the left elbow

(5) Strike to the right elbow

(6) Strike to the solar plexus, right arm is supported by left to guide and strengthen strike

(7) Strike to left side of chest, support strike

(8) Strike to right side of chest, support strike

(9) Strike to right knee

(10) Strike to left knee

(11) Strike to left eye, support strike

(12) Strike to right eye, support strike

(13) Strike to crown(head)

 

6 Basic Modern Arnis Blocks

 

(1) Cameron and Eddie in ready position

(2) Cameron strikes Eddie to the left elbow, Eddie performs an upright block supported by his left palm

(3) Strike to right elbow, block upright with left palm support

(4) Strike to right knee, block to stick or hand/wrist

(5) Strike to left knee, block to stick or hand/wrist

(6) Strike to crown, block upward, supported by left palm

(7) Strike to solar plexus, downward block with edge of left hand supporting block

(8) Eddie grabs stick after Cameron's last strike and counters with strike to head

 

Defence against stick attack

(1) Allan prepares to attack Cameron

(2) As Allan attacks, Cameron steps in and blocks the attack and strikes to the chin

(3) With the same hand he goes into an elbow strike

(4) With the same hand Cameron then puts on a front head lock

(5) He then strikes with the knee

(6) Then he disarms Allan

 

Defence against knife attack

(1) Justin prepares to attack Mr Rawlins with a knife

(2) As he lunges forward with the knife, Mr Rawlins blocks it with his hand

(3) As he down blocks, he also applies a rear wrist lock, which causes Justin to let go of the knife

(4) He then strikes Justin with the elbow

(5) Then the knee

(6) He then stads over him to see if he wants more

 

Defence against a turning kick in a street fight

(1) Justin and Jason shape up to each other

(2) Justin blocks a turning kick to his back (flank)

(3) Justin blocks and grabs Jason's turning kick and replies with a turing kick to Jason's stomach

(4) He then delivers a punch to Jason's face whilst still holding his leg

(5) He then leg sweeps Jason to the ground

 

(6 )He then finishes Jason off with a punch to the groin or stomach, depending on how much damage he want to inflict

 

Defence against a turning kick in competition from a closed stance

(1) Both competitors square of against each other, in what we call close stance.

 

 

(2) As Justin executes a turning kick to Jason flank or middle section, Jason slides back to evade the kick (try not to block the kick with your forearms as sometimes the referee's will score it as a point to your opponent)

(3) Jason then delivers a well timed turning kick to Justin's head (2 points) or to his body (1point)

 

 

Defence against a turning kick in competition from an open stance

(1) Jason and Justin square up against each other in what we call open stance

(2) As Justin throws a turning kick to Jason's chest guard (hogu), Jason  turns his body and evades the kick.
(3) Jason then delivers a spinning hook kick to Justin's head (2 points) or a back kick to the body (1point)
